The horse judging program allows you to learn about horses by judging them. Any Horse or Horseless project member may participate. Each horse judging event counts as an educational activity. Read on to learn more.
Contest Format
- 4 classes made up of 4 horses or items are judged and placed by the contest participants.
- Participants will give reasons, both written and oral, for 1 of the classes.
- Contests are usually held at an arena, but may also be held indoors.
Awards
- All participants will receive a blue, red or white ribbon at each contest.
- At the end of the year, the top scorers in each age group will receive a high-point award.
- The top placings contestants (usually 10) will also be part of the team representing Pierce County at the State 4-H Fair.
Novice Judging
- Open to those who are new to judging.
- 3 blue ribbons in Novice judging will automatically move you to open judging.
- Novice judgers are not eligible for year end awards in judging.
- Novice judgers:
- Are given extra time on reasons,
- May have a support person,
- May be offered an alternate, group-style judging/reasons experience.
